Kitesurfing Lesson - Frequently Asked Questions!!
Do you conduct lessons year round?
The lesson season in the UK is April-November. The best time of year for learning to kite is Spring, Summer, & Fall as the weather is warm, and the winds are consistent which makes it a much more enjoyable experience.
What equipment do you provide during the lessons?
In the Level 1 – (day 1 course) you will start with the smaller trainer kites and then work your way up to the smaller bow kites (6m & 9m). In the Level 2 – (2 day course) you will be using a 9, 12m bow kite depending on your size and wind conditions during the lesson and a floaty twin-tip board (150cm), seat harness & helmet.
Where do you teach your lessons?
We teach our lessons in the best two locations in the UK
1. Poole, Sandbanks (said to be the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney) this location is again one of the best area’s to learn in the UK the harbour is huge the water is flat (no surf) shallow waist deep at most and the kitesurf area is about 400mtr square.
What days do you offer lessons and how do I make a reservation?
We offer lessons everyday there is enough wind. If there is not enough wind on the day of the lesson, the lesson will be rescheduled to another day. The minimum amount of wind that we teach our Level 1 - Ground Control class is about 8mph, our Level 2 - On the Water class requires at least 10-12mph of steady wind. You can book your lesson online.
What do I need to bring for the lesson?
We will provide all the equipment, safety gear, Wetsuits and all the kitesurf equipment. It would be good to bring a dry towel/pack lunch/sun glasses & sun screen.
I am an accomplished wakeboarder/surfer/snowboarder. Will I be able to pick up kiteboarding really quick?
Although a background in other board sports is helpful, kiteboarding is 90% kite control. You have to learn the skills necessary to safely control the kite before attempting to ride the board. When you do get on the board, having those other sports under your belt with definitely be a plus. We have taught all ages and types of people, and kiteboarding is more finesse than physical strength, if you are wondering. Having a background in sailing or wind surfing will also help out in the learning process.
Do you rent kites or boards?
We provide kites and boards for our students during a lesson. We cannot rent kites without the supervision of an instructor, but if you are travelling to our area, and don't want to bring your boards, stop by the shop and we'll set you up.
S2AS Kitesurf School Location:
Poole Harbour
At the Poole base we teach at Poole Harbour, Sandbanks. This, after Sydney, is the worlds largest natural harbour and is definitely worth a visit from all water goers!! The harbour has shallow waters for at least 300 metres out making teaching safe at all tide times!! Learning to kitesurf at Poole Harbour will enable you to build your kitesurfing / kiteboarding skills at a faster pace as your confidence will grow simultaneously. During the summer months Poole Harbour will warm up nicely, [due to shallow waters] making your kiteboarding lesson even more enjoyable - giving a vibe of a European kitesurfing spot.
IMPORTANT INOFORMATION: WE DO NOT OFFER A REFUND ON LESSONS, THE VOUCHER IS VALID FOR 1 YEAR FROM DATE OF PURCHASE.
If you still have any questions you can contact us via e-mail at: info@s2as.com or via the telephone on: 01202 738448.
Kite surfing lessons in Poole

Hiya,
i just wanted to formalise my thanks for the truly awesome instruction i received this weekend from Mike Turner (Spikey!) at your Poole branch.
I signed up for and completed day 1 of kite surfing instruction with a competitor (due to you being booked up!). By mid afternoon i was dispondant, lacking in confidence and really nervous about getting back in the water i was actually really disappointed as i was previously really excited about taking up the sport but finished my day 1 feeling rubbish!
My brother on the other hand did his day 1 with Spikey on the same day and was bouncing off the walls at the end of it so i called to see if you had any space for me to do a day 2 with him the next day.
By the end of my day 2 having been taught by Spikey i was absolutely buzzing. He was patient, calm, enthusiastic, instilled confidence and was an incredibly talented coach.
I have been lucky enough to work with some of the countries top coaches (a guy called Dave Alred in particular webpage links below).
He is currently the British Olympic Association's head of elite coaching and has realy highlighted to me the difference between 'teaching' and 'managing a students learning'. Anyone can teach all you do is tell people everything they need to know about a particular topic! but to manage someones learning is a unique talent. To be able to read people, work out their style of learning and provide key instructions to help them develop a skill is not common amongst those who instruct but massively important and Spikey was one of the best i have seen at it. He treated each of us as individuals and taught each of us individuals. It was an awesome day.
Anyway thank you for an amazing experience please do pass on my thanks to Spikey and i am sure both my bro and i will be buying kit from you soon!!!!
best wishes

Kitesurfing Lessons in Poole

I just wanted to drop a line to the Manager of S2AS to give some credit to Spikey who was my instructor on a two day kite surfing course recently.
He is a credit to your company, and an extremely professional instructor. He handled the course really well and in difficult conditions, and a with a very 'mixed bag' of students! I was very impressed how he handled the students over the course, and gave everyone individual attention and kept us all learning and having fun. When I arrived and the weather was dreary and the class were unenthusiastic, I thought the course was going to be a disaster and a nightmare for Spikey and us. Within no time Spikey had us all having fun, and forgetting about the weather and any of our problems. I do not know how he keeps his motivation and upbeat approach, he is a top guy. Even when one of our class was injured he handled the incident like the pro he is and kept the class together and having fun.
I arrived having never done any watersports or even seen a kite close up! After 2 days I was on top of the water and riding. A week later I am hooked and now have all my own kit and the confidence to use it. The important thing that I got out of the course was the confidence to use the equipment safely, and the correct attitude. Even as a beginner I feel that I can take my kite to the beach and be safe and not look like a dick. It was obvious that some of the instructors from other schools were real cowboys and nowhere near as professional as Spikey. He has the respect of everyone, and I am very glad that I was lucky enough to have had him as an instructor. He is a great guy, a really good teacher and I am glad that I will be sharing the beach with other people he has taught. You are lucky to have him on your team.
I will be recommending him and your school to all of my RAF mates and hope to be back soon.
Thanks
