Shinn Kiteboarding The Monk II 2012 Kitesurf Board - Beast Edition
The MONK II - Beast Edition - Limited Edition-
BOARD COMES COMPLETE WITH FINS AND STRAPS
- Introduction
Rarely has a board made so much noise in such a short existence. The Monk has redefined comfort and fun on a twin tip and continues to convert all those that ride it.
For 2012 we set the R+D department loose with a clear message; "if it is not better then forget it".
V1 was fast, but not as comfortable as before. V2 was more comfortable but not as fast as before. V3 had more grip but less pop, while V4 had more pop but less grip.. and so the story continued...
So after 10 months of designing, prototyping and testing we’re proud to present to you the almost all new version (and if it looks strikingly familiar then we’ll take that as a good thing!)
The 2012 Monk, our hooligan returns.

- Sizes
Contrary to popular opinion it's not the length of your board that's the most important when choosing a size but the width. Increasing the width by only 1cm can add as much as 10% to the surface area of the board. The Monk is available in 6 widths ensuring that no matter your weight, the conditions you ride in or your preferred style there's a perfect size ride for you in the range.
126 x 38
128 x 39
130 x 40
132 x 41
135 x 42
135 x 44
- Core
Every board starts with a CORE and the material used will determine both the long and short terms flex characteristics of the ride, it"s durability and of course it's weight. After countless prototypes and tests one material has proven to be far superior to any other in all aspects and that one material is nature's finest….. wood. Using a full wood core means our boards maintain their prescribed flex patterns year after year and are not prone to sudden catastrophic failure as many other materials are.
- Fins
The Monk is supplied with 1st Quality, high pressure/temperature formed G10 fins. Proved many times over to be the best material for both durability and stiffness, anything else is just 2nd best. Hi-visibility red pigment makes finding your board in the water a breeze and the fins are fixed to the board with A4 grade INOX bolts and our bespoke “foxes glacier mint" fin washers. New for 2012 the 132.41 and smaller Monk's will come with 43mm fins whilst the larger boards come with the grippier 53mm version.
- Rocker
Conventional rockers have multiple radiuses however our new design maintains a constant curve from tip to tail. As power increases and you load the rail you naturally transfer more weight to your back foot, thecc rocker contact with the water remains constant (unlike multiple radius versions) no matter how your balance is distributed between your feet, meaning no trim adjustment and no increase in leg pressure is needed – constant grip and constant power in all conditions. Massively increasing the lift in the extremes of the board has the added bonus of eliminating tip strike when riding in chop and that means no spray in the riders eyes – ever.
- Deck Mould
First featured on the Monk last year, our Squoval mould has become synonymous with comfort and performance. By allowing bi-lateral flex through the tips of the board whilst maintaining the form around the your feet intact we can produce boards that appear to absorb all chop with out slowing you down and without feeling energy-sappingly soft.
When combined with our Constant curve rocker line and Progressive concave we offer the board that independent testers described as "being “good at everything, all of the time"
- Tests
This is what Kiteworld said about the monk;
"This is a dream board. Intermediates jumping on this won't quite understand just how good it is and how lucky they are to have one, but anyone who's owned a few twinnies will do. Boards often get better and better the flatter the water. This is just good at everything all the time"
The Beast Limited Edition
The Beast edition is exactly the same physical board as the Monk and Monk II, as well as the same price, but sports a new livery..
