The Oakley brand born in 1975, with on emad scientist, his garage labatory, an investment of £300 and a dog names Oakley. Wanting to break through the boundaries of industry standards, the founder of Oakley, James 'Jim' Jannard, aspired to create products that worked better and looked better than anything out on the market. He wanted artwork that performed.

Right from the beginning, Jim disregarded sceptics and overcame the limitations of 'predictable'. In his garage lab, he crafted The Oakley Grip.

But Jim had his sights set on more. His next invention, the OFrame Goggle, was to become a prominent player in the MX racing sphere over the following two decades. With its lens curved in precise arc of a cylinder, Jim demonstrated his ability to create products that both technologically and visually surpassed what was already out there. Champions of the sport. Mark Barnett and Maert Smith, advocated the clarity and wide peripheral view that was now accessible to them thanks to the Oakley O Frame Goggles.

Jim returned to his lab, this time with the intent of transforming the eyewear world of sports completley. Once again, doubts were cast, but never from Jim. He knew that everything had the potential to be improved upon, and he wasnt afraid of taking on the industry's leading companies. Then came the Eyeshades, a product that redefined eyewear. Eyeshades with their ground breaking design, could not be described merely as sunglasses, but as essential sports equiptment. Sports pros demanded Eyeshades, with a performance and protection that excelled all others. Amongst the earliest Oakley fans it was Greg Lemond, who went on to become a three-time winner of the Tour De France. Oakley today develops their performance products with extensive athletic input and testion in the feild.

oakley helmet technologies

Oakley® helmets provide comfort and security for snowboarders and skiiers alike. Mod models have MIPS integration combined with a hybrid shell design along with ABS and In Mold construction to provide maximum protection in the event of a crash. With adjustable vents and chin straps that use high-quality, secure, magnetic latching which in turn make Oakley helmets a lot easier to use compared to other branded models.

On the other hand, to really fine tune the fit of an oakley helmet you must measure your head, the decide if you fit into the Small, Medium or Large catagories. Once you know what size you are, you can try the helmet on and fine tune the fit by using either the 180 degree BOA System on some of the earlier and lower priced models. Furthermore, in the newer Oakley Helmet models the BOA System moves up from 180 degree security to 360 degree security BOA System.

BOA is a game changing design and has been used on several different products throughout the sports industry.

Oakley's range of snow helmets has been expanding rapidly in the past few years. The range includes: MOD1 (YOUTH), MOD1 (YOUTH MIPS), MOD1 MIPS, MOD1 PRO, MOD3, MOD3 MIPS, MOD5, MOD7(TORCH), MOD7(SAPHIRE).

Glare Protection with Uncompromised Clarity

A headache from glare can ruin your day. Golfers have to deal with the performance-killing distraction of glare from water hazards, bunkers and flat areas. Fishing sessions can be futile when blinding rays bounce off water and hide the keepers. Driving in glare can be risky, and road cyclists know how glare can hide potholes and other dangers. Any skier or snowboarder can tell you how glare distracts, diminishes mental focus and drains energy with tension. We developed HDPolarized lenses for elite athletes but our technology serves everyone. Because glare doesn’t care if you’re a sport champion, weekend warrior or just someone who enjoys the sun.

You can be blinded by what you cannot see

An invisible form of radiation, UV rays pelt your retinas at 186,000 miles per second. Eye damage linked to UV includes cataract, photokeratitis and pterygium. UV damage builds up over time. You generally don’t feel UV rays, so there is no natural warning that damage is being done. And although clouds reduce the level of UV reaching your eyes, clouds don’t block UV completely — which means your eyes can be exposed to UV rays even on overcast days.

Thermonuclear Protection

Oakley Plutonite® lens material stops every wavelength of ultraviolet radiation from the sun‘s thermonuclear furnace, not just the lower energy form called “UVA.” Even our clear lenses filter out 100% of all UV. The image at the left shows how harmful rays are blocked while the visible spectrum passes through.
